It’s always very rewarding to witness DYJO players starting to step up and into the world of professional music, so it was a double delight to welcome DYJO1’s Dodie into the trumpet section of AJ’s Big Band at Teignmouth for a wonderfully received concert at Teignmouth Pavilions (where DYJO have performed already this season).
DYJO is already well represented in AJ’s: both Graham and I play in the trumpet section, and had DYJO alumnus Henry Clark (and normal AJ’s lead trumpet been there), it would have been a full house!); in the trombone section is Tommy Gill, and in the saxes and leading the band is long-time DYJO MD Ken Parr.
Needless to say, Dodie did a great job, and relished the challenge of sight-reading two hours of big band music!
And the next day for Dodie: six hours with DYJO at our seventh Gathering Day of the season, preparing for our forthcoming concerts around Devon. All part of the life of a busy musician…
