A rather different experience today for some of our DYJO musicians – a day in the recording studio to record five songs for Carers’ Pathways, a Devon-based charity which supports people caring for people with dementia.
Specifically, the songs will be part of a resource given to all retirement, nursing and care homes, and Memory Cafés in Devon, thanks to the support of the Devon Music Eduction Hub and the John Lewis Partnership Trust.
Arranged by Ken Parr, the songs have been chosen to stir memories for both people with dementia and their carers, singing along, moving with the beat, or just enjoying the sounds.
After today’s instrumental recordings, the next stage will for the vocals to be recorded on top, and the whole thing to be processed ready for its release later this year – I’ll post an update when we get to that point. But the process today has been a fascinating one, and an educational for the players. For now, a few photos from the recording session at the Music Mill Studios in Newton Abbot.
